Testing the model where our story begins.
We are starting in Merseyside (LCR) because it is our home. It is where our relationships, knowledge and sense of responsibility already exist. By starting here, we can build a model that is locally grounded and designed to grow.
WHY MERSEYSIDE
• Strong communities. Deep relationships and local pride that create the foundation for change.
• Diverse neighbourhoods. A rich mix of places, people and perspectives across our region.
• Civic energy. Active communities, organisations and ideas already in motion.
• Potential to scale. Piloting here will allow us to learn and iterate the infrastructure before scaling to other regions in the UK.
WHAT WE ARE TESTING
• Doughnut Conversations. We meet people where they are to understand what matters most.
• Civic Praxis Labs. We go deeper with communities to co-create questions and explore local solutions.
• Neighbourhood Doughnuts. We turn insights into visually grounded Doughnuts that show what a safe and just future looks like.
• Participatory Platform. People propose ideas, vote on priorities and shape local action.
• Circular Missions. We support the ideas with the most local support to become real-world prototypes.
PILOT AMBITION
• Start local. Begin with neighbourhoods across Merseyside.
• Build the Merseyside Doughnut. Co-create a regional picture of a safe and just future.
• Test participation and action. Turn ideas into action and learn what works.
• Create a model that can grow nationwide. Share learning openly to inspire other places.
THE ROAD AHEAD
• Phase 1 — We listen across the region, understand what matters and map local strengths, priorities and opportunities.
• Phase 2 — We launch the Circular Futures Merseyside, a participatory budgeting platform and invite ideas and proposals that address real local priorities.
• Phase 3 — We support prototypes, learn together and share what works — locally and beyond.
